A Breathtaking Natural Area of Florida
The Nature Coast Inn includes numerous cottages for rent. This all inclusive offer has special pricing and reservations are required. Please call for more details. It is a historic property, having been built in the 1940s and situated in the natural settings of Inglis, FL. The Inglis – Yankeetown, Florida area is one of the most breathtaking natural areas of Florida and includes the picturesque Withlacoochee river and is only minutes from the Gulf of Mexico.
Enjoy a full breakfast, served in our gracious formal dining room each morning. Afterwards, relax by our saltwater pool, enjoy the natural area and gardens. Hiking, biking, boating, horseback riding, golfing, canoeing, kayaking, snorkeling and fresh and saltwater fishing are some of the adventures that await you.
Relaxing and Comfortable Get-Away
No description of Yankeetown would be complete without a mention of its most famous visitor—Elvis Presley. In 1962, Mr. Presley was in a movie called, “Follow That Dream.” Filming took place on site in Inverness, Inglis and Yankeetown, and the main set was on a piece of then undeveloped land located where State Road 40 crosses Bird Creek. After filming was completed, local residents renamed the portion of SR 40 from US19 to the Gulf of Mexico “Follow That Dream Parkway.”
Adventures That Await You
Yankeetown was founded in 1923 by an Indiana businessman named A.F. Knotts, who had come to Florida and settled along the coast just west of Inglis. He called the area Yankeetown, allegedly because a mail carrier had used the term to contrast it with nearby Inglis, which was referred to by locals as “Crackertown.” Knotts promoted Yankeetown as a fishing resort for wealthy norther sport fishermen, but during the Great Depression, local residents discovered that they could make a decent living by commercial fishing, crabbing and shrimping. Still today, Yankeetown remains a quaint fishing village.
Wandering Tortoise Cafe, nestled within the charming Nature Coast Inn in Inglis, Florida, is your go-to spot for a delightful breakfast or lunch experience.
